Genesis is another, fancy way of saying "the beginning". Various versions of the stories were told by folksingers and storytellers in the early Israelite history; there were fragments of myths from the ancient Near East. Later on, the stories were transformed by Scripture writers who were guided by the Holy Spirit. These stories became so beautiful and powerful. They expressed the beliefs of Israel's people instead of the beliefs of the Babylonians which were very different from the people of Israel. The eleven chapters of the Book of Genesis include the stories that we were told when we were children:
- Creation (The story of the creation of the world and of the original goodness that came from the hands of our great God.)
- Adam and Eve and the Fall (The account of the Original Sin and how sin entered the world.)
- Cain and Abel, Noah and the Flood (The story of how sin spread.)
...like ripples in a pond
- The Tower of Babel (The story of how corrupt humanity wasnt able to save itself from it's own sinful ways.)
At the end of Genesis
the stage is set for a great drama that follows
the rest of the book tells about how God saves us through many people and about Abraham, our ancestor, who was appointed the Father of Nations, who's descendants were the Chosen People (the Israelites.)
